SMC v8.beta33 - Changelog

Hey all, Monday is here, but there's a positive: the new SMC update has just releaesed 👀 Here are the highlights:

Hey all, the new Background & NPC-focused Snapshot is finally out! Here are the highlights:

💬 New NPCs

This one's for the storytellers! Please welcome a whole bunch of new NPCs to the game, you can view them in the image below!

🪧 (Custom) Background updates

BGs have gone through a similar overhaul as to how music went in Snapshot 29. Instead of repeatedly inserting the same custom BG URL, you just add it as an image once that you can select!

The background/image picker menu has also been completely reworked. Not just the looks, it also now sorts backgrounds by categories & there's a search bar!

🪧 Message Sign

Not to be confused with the other signposts objects, as this one is intended to display messages! It can do so by text (like an NPC), or - unique to the Message Sign - with an image. You can pick an image using the new menu mentioned above!

☀️ Savanna Theme

Both gamestyles have received a brand new theme - Savanna! This comes with both a tileset, as well as new music. Go check it out!

🌊 Layered Liquid updates

It's now possible to have any liquid tileset also be a layered liquid! These are special liquid objects that you can simply drag up and down. They also got palettes, the same as their tileset counterpart!

🔄 New Environmental Changers

The Background, Background Gradient & Background Color Changer lets you added background properties in real-time, with optional transitions!

🦛 New rollin' enemies

This Snapshot adds Grrrols, Big Steely & Hoppo, the latter being a SMB Wonder enemy. Their circular-esque hitboxes allow for some unique interactions with terrain!

TWEAKS

• Added Aqua Pipe Lakitus! These are just skins for regular Pipe Lakitus, but gives them some nifty use-cases underwater. The defeat frame has also been 'fixed', it appeared misaligned in the original SMW.

• Inside the editor, some sprites that are set to face to the right will no longer be visually mirrored (e.g. mushrooms) if they wouldn't appear like that during gameplay either.

• Spike Balls, Footballs & sliding Grab Blocks will now half their speed when entering a body of liquid, and speed up again upon exit.

• Slight tile page tweaks to new retro tilesets (to make them more consistent with the other 4).

• POW enemy compatibility tweaks: Munchers can now be defeated by all POWs, but King Bill & Terrisa are now immune to Red POWs.

• When hitting a block with sprites on top, the X-coordinate of the block triggerer (instead of the block itself) is now used, where applicable, to determine which direction a sprite should bounce towards.

• POW Blocks (the blue, carryable one) is now able to trigger blocks, in the same manner some other carryable blocks (e.g. Grab Blocks) are able to do.

• Freezing Torpedo Teds now creates an appropriate ice cube depending on their angle, instead of always being a flat (horizontal, 2-tiled) ice cube.

• Renaming an effect no longer moves it to the bottom of the effect list (this was due to the game seeing it as a 'new' effect).

• Instead of exploding instantly, Kab-ombs now lift-off into the air upon touching lava, then explode like usual.

• Bullies (including Chill Bullies) can now push players contained in ice cubes.

• The momentum of the ice cube is passed over to the player when they break out of it.

• Crowbers now adapt to map screen sizes (meaning they turn when at the edge of the viewport).

• (Blue) Beach Koopa & Outmaways can now catch & kick Spike Balls, as well as the newly introduced Big Steelies (as long as they aren't going too fast!)

• Slightly increased entrance leniency for vertical pipes

• Tweaked mushroom speeds slightly, so they're easier to pick up inbetween most enemies
